Lukas, Namrita and Josh - 5th D1 Team Relay
Lukas, Namrita and Josh – 5th D1 Team Relay
The team had a killer time at Nationals in Beech Mountain, NC this past weekend. With a cold snowy start to the weekend, it finally warmed up come Sunday in time for Lukas Grob, Joshua Longenecker and Namrita O’Dea to earn a 5th place medal in the Division 1 Team Relay! Namrita also placed 19th in the Short Track race on Friday even after a spill, redeeming herself with a solid 10th in the women’s D1 XC race on Saturday. Lukas Grob and Joshua Longenecker placed 20th and 46th respectively in Short Track and 31st and 38th in XC. A fantastic showing by our Yellow Jackets, two years in a row!

Check out the results from the weekend here: http://www.usacycling.org/2013/collegiate-mtb-nationals

Great job team and many thanks to the Longenecker family for all the help this weekend. We couldn’t have done it without your support!

Georgia Tech is out for the victory

It’s the eve of our first outing of 2013 on The Flats, and RATS, it’s time to brush up on your fight songs. If you’re not getting dirty in Alabama tomorrow, then you’d better be singing your heart out in the stands!

Don’t disappoint Bobby. Learn your songs.

White and Gold

Oh, well, it’s up with the white and gold,
Down with the red and black,
Georgia Tech is up for a victory.
We’ll drop the battle-axe on Georgia’s head,
When we meet her, our team is sure to beat her.
Down on the farm there will be no sound,
‘Till our bow-wows rip through the air.
When the battle is over Georgia’s team will be found
With the Yellow Jackets swarming round! Hey!

Ramblin’ Wreck

I’m a Ramblin’ Wreck from Georgia Tech and a hell of an engineer,
A helluva, helluva, helluva, helluva, hell of an engineer,
Like all the jolly good fellows, I drink my whiskey clear.
I’m a Ramblin’ Wreck from Georgia Tech and a hell of an engineer.

Oh, If I had a daughter sir, I’d dress her in white and gold.
And put her on the campus, to cheer the brave and bold.
But if I had a son sir, I’ll tell you what he’d do:
He would yell, “To Hell With Georgia!” like his daddy used to do.

Oh I wish I had a barrel of rum, and sugar three thousand pounds,
A college bell to put it in, and the clapper to stir it ’round,
I’d drink to all the good fellows who’d come from far and near,
I’m a rambling, gambling, Hell Of An Engineer! Hey!

When you say Budweiser…

First week of school

college-freshman

The first day of class is less than two weeks away and we’re preparing vigorously to start the semester on a firm stroke (oh yes). The next few FASETs are the last chance to appeal to a captive audience of freshmen; after número 7, we have a full weekend of open racing at EAV and Grant Park, the last hurrah of the summer before mountain season is in full swing.

Our first meeting is on Monday the 19th at 8PM in CRC 249. This one’s for the curious and mildly interested, no cycling jargon here, just come and hang out. We’ll have a low key night with free pizza, conversation and lots of Q&A. If you’re lucky, maybe you’ll get a tap for the Cypress Street after-party. Maybe. But you gotta be cool.

That first week we’ll have easy rides everyday and then we head to the Dick Lane Velodrome on Saturday where we’ll be hosting our very first Collegiate Track Cup. It’s a perfect chance for any of you beginners to get a taste of racing AND get certified for the track, for only $30! It’s normally $60. The next day, for folks who like to get dirty, we’ll go up to the trails at Blanket’s Creek for a mountain bike skills camp with ORGT. This one’s completely free. And Monday we’ll have another meet n’ greet for all you bums that missed the last one.

It’s gonna be an action packed week, so hold off on that homework and skip the freshmen hall socials. You won’t want to miss this!

Check our calendar page to keep up to date with all our upcoming events.

2013 Georgia Tech Collegiate Track Cup

Over the last year we’ve made some amazing progress.

We’ve hired coach Mike Barman to train our team to victory. Not just a coach, but a mentor and motivator; he’s helped us organize, focus and become a team in a way I  never thought possible.

We’ve held two successful collegiate races: our MTB race in the fall and a completely new race, The Bobby Dodd Classic just this past March. It was a huge undertaking. It took months of planning, heartbreak and late nights. Several teams in the conference cancelled theirs. We didn’t. And it paid off.

We’ve formed a women’s team for the first time in the history of the club. Multiple women. At an engineering school. And its growing.

We’ve competed with Division 1 varsity teams and beat them, nearly swiping a 3rd place overall team finish from a varsity club with a full-time coach, a bus, trailers, scholarships and a course-load that allows much more free time. Next year it won’t be so easy.

We sent riders to mountain Nationals for the first time in five years. Five. Years.  Is that a hint towards change? You bet. Next year in 2014, we’ll be sending riders to road, track and mountain Nationals.

And that’s where we need your help. Next year, our goals are great and they’re attainable, but only with proper support. We’ve created a sponsor packet to show how you can get involved with the team and be part of something awesome. With you and us together, we can make Georgia Tech a southeastern cycling powerhouse.
